The Polytechnic University of Madrid was founded in 1971 as an association of several universities and teaches nearly 36,000 students. The university's motto is "Technica impendi nationi".4

Madrid is the capital of Spain and also of the autonomous community of Madrid. Madrid is one of the largest metropolitan regions in Europe and has about seven million inhabitants. The city of Madrid is the second largest city in the European Union after Berlin and has over 3.2 million inhabitants without suburbs.

Madrid is home to six public universities as well as various other colleges, theaters, museums and cultural institutions.6
