University

The University of the Aegean is a Greek state university on the Aegean islands, such as Rhodes and Lesvos. Following its Greek name, it is also called Panepistimio Egeou. The university has a total of about 10,000 students. Its seat is Mytilini on the island of Lesvos and it was founded in 1984.2

City of Mytilini

The city of Mytilini is also an ancient port city. It can be considered the economic, administrative and cultural center of the Greek island of Lesbos. The city has about 30,000 inhabitants. The refugee camp Moria is located in the municipality of Mytilini and about seven kilometers away from the city of Mytilini. Mytilini is a historically important city and has some ancient buildings.3
